William R. "Bill" Heck, age 84, resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of New Castle, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born January 18, 1928 in New Castle, Indiana a son of the late Claude J. and Lillian Williams Heck.
He was a 1945 graduate of New Castle High School, and attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Mr. Heck served with the United States Army, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, receiving several military awards and recognitions. He was employed by Modernfold Industries beginning in 1949, retiring in 1989 as Vice President of Sales. He was very active in several civic and social organizations, including the First United Methodist Church, New Castle Elks Lodge, and Westwood Country Club, where he served as President. Mr. Heck was a supporter of the YMCA. He and his first wife of 46 years, Marceline, established a fund through the Henry County Community Foundation for childrens’ YMCA memberships.
Left to cherish his loving memory include: his wife, Barbara Davis Heck of Indianapolis, Indiana; 3 sons, Dane A. Heck (wife Michele) of New Castle, Indiana, Jay W. Heck (wife Darlene) of Carmel, Indiana, and Lee R. Heck (partner Bill McGee) of Seattle, Washington; 3 grandchildren, Amie R. Groce (husband Paul) of Springport, Indiana, Stefanie Heck Turner (husband Bryan) of Chicago, Illinois, and Bryan W. Heck of Chicago, Illinois; 1 great granddaughter, Shelby K. York of Springport, Indiana; 6 step children, Mimi White (husband James) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Nancy Wichinski (husband Randy) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Don Davis of Chicago, Illinois, Tim Davis (wife Alyson) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Carol Karp (husband John) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Teresa Hutchison (husband Phil) of Indianapolis, Indiana; 1 sister, Phyllis Harter (husband Ed) of Madison, South Dakota; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Marceline Heck, who passed December 31, 1999; 2 brothers, Claude J. "Jack" Heck and Harry "Pete" Heck; 1 sister, Joanne Heck; and his step mother, Cleyta Heck.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., with visitation 1 hour prior, on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church (1324 Church Street New Castle, Indiana 47362) with Reverend Tom McGilliard officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle.
Military Honors will be conducted by the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
