Jeanette Harris, age 82, New Castle resident, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 at her residence.
She was born October 18, 1930 in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of the late James and Jessie Lane Hardgrove.
Mrs. Harris was a lifelong resident of Henry County, and had resided in Mt. Summit and New Castle most of her life. She was a homemaker, and was very involved with her family’s activities. She was a beautician, and also had worked for Indiana Bell Telephone for many years. During the time her late husband Joe Harris was Henry County Sheriff, Mrs. Harris was a deputy, and served as the jail matron. She was a member of the Mt. Summit Christian Church, and had attended the Sugar Grove Methodist Church. She was a 1949 Graduate of Mt. Summit High School where she was a cheerleader. She was an avid golfer and played on several women’s leagues in Henry County.
Left to cherish her loving memory include 3 children, Jamey Atkinson of New Castle, Indiana, Joseph Bart Harris (companion Lori Hale) of Greenfield, Indiana, and Jay Douglas Harris (wife Amy) of Lexington, Kentucky; 7 grandchildren, Jay Clapp (wife Julie) of New Castle, Indiana, Joseph Michael Harris (wife Kristy) of Santa Clarita, California, T Sergeant Jennifer Harris, serving with the United States Air Force, stationed in Guam, Jon Harris of North Hills, California, Zachary Harris of Youngstown, Ohio, Jack Harris of Lexington, Kentucky, and Annie Harris of Lexington, Kentucky; 4 great-grandchildren, Jackson Clapp, Caleb Clapp of New Castle, Indiana, Isabella Harris of Santa Clarita, California, and Brandon Harris of Santa Clarita, California; 1 sister, Nancy Snodgrass (husband Phil) of Greensburg, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph D. Harris in 2007, whom she married on February 12, 1954; 1 sister, Phyllis Joan Hughes; and 1 brother, Jack D. Hardgrove.
Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A funeral service, and celebration of life for Mrs. Harris, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the funeral home with Cindy Hege Sturgeon officiating.
