Michael W. “Mike” Mettert, age 58, New Castle resident, passed away Monday, July 16, 2012 at his residence.
He was born March 26, 1954 in New Castle, Indiana a son of the late Alan and Opal Hellen Gold Mettert Jr.
He was raised in New Castle and had lived in Michigan for many years before, returning to New Castle several years ago. He had worked in construction for most of his life, and was a contractor.
He was a member of the American Legion. He loved sharing time with his family and friends, and will be remembered as a loving, free spirited man, who loved his family, nature, animals, and especially his pet dog Harley.
Mike had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior.
Left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Amy Sloan (husband Doug) of New Castle, Indiana; 2 sons, Jeremy Mettert (special friend Amy Sutherland) of New Castle, Indiana and Brent Mettert of New Castle, Indiana; 1 sister, Mary Jane Hunt of Shawnee, Wyoming; 8 grandchildren, Kyle, Derek, Jesse, Stephen, Ariel, Lilly, Courtney, and Lillian; and also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Linda Grahm and Barbara Mettert; 2 brothers, Joe Mettert and Jimmy Mettert; and 1 brother in law, Lee Grahm.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the funeral home. Graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012 in Sugar Grove Methodist Cemetery (27 North Sulphur Spring Road New Castle, Indiana 47362). There will be a family funeral dinner following the service on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Memorial Wesleyan Church (2701 North Memorial Drive New Castle, Indiana 47362).
