Marvin J. Jones, 78, of Philadelphia, Indiana, former New Castle, Indiana resident, went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 22, 2012, at his residence.
Marvin was the son of John Wesley and Dorothy (Poynter) Jones.
He was born in New Castle, Indiana. Marvin attended several New Castle Schools as well as Brookville High School and Purdue University. Marvin was a member of the U.S. Navy on board the U.S.S. Keppler for four years. His life’s work was in the food and beverage business, having retired from the Rykoff/Sexton Co. after thirty years in management. Marvin was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served the Lord as Usher, Trustee and Adult Sunday School Teacher until having problems with his voice.
Marvin was preceded in death by, his parents; sister, Doris Jane of New Castle, Indiana; brother, Charles E. of San Mateo, Florida; mother and father-in-law, Elizabeth (Delmar) Marlow; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce “Toby” (John) Hall; and son-in-law, Charlie Fugate of Farmland, Indiana.
Survivors include, his wife, Mary F. of Greenfield, Indiana; daughter, Sherry Lynn Fugate of Farmland, Indiana; Debra E. (Tony) Johnson of Anderson, Indiana; son, John W. Jones of Greenfield, Indiana; sister, Edith (Grover) Denham of Connersville, Indiana; brother, John R. (Zip) Jones of Hollister, Florida; sister, Rosemary (Chandler) Combs of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister, Diane Allen of Connersville, Indiana; and seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephew’s.
Service to be conducted at Macer-Hall Funeral Home & Cremation Services, with Brother Bobby Slagle officiating on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 and one half hour before services. Burial will be in Green Hills Memory Gardens in New Castle following the services.
Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy.
